Our food isn’t pretentious; it’s all about the flavor and bite. That isn’t to say that our food is ‘simple’ or easy to replicate.
All our dishes and sushi rolls are made with fresh ingredients and prepared by qualified chefs.
Over the years our bites and sushi are tweaked to the ultimate comfort food. Next to my own childhood favorites, many of our streetbites are inspired by contemporary Asian food chefs like Roy Choi.

A corner
with a legacy
VIJFNULVIJF (Five-oh-five) is named after the street number on the Insulindeweg 505 – the address where our restaurant is situated.
Since the 1960’s this place has been the ‘go to spot’ for Asian food for the residents of Amsterdam East. Many Chinese restaurants like Kota Radja were based on this exact same spot. As a tribute to the legacy of this iconic building we decided to name our restaurant after this corner and its heritage.
As a second generation child of Chinese immigrant parents I grew up experiencing the rich flavors of the Asian kitchen.
During our holidays in China and neighboring countries my granny introduced me as a kid to the multitudes of asian foods sold by vendors on the street.
Years later, back in Amsterdam I discovered that my Dutch friends never really experienced real Asian food. Let’s face it, Babi Pangang and all-you-can-eat sushi just doesn’t count…
The inspiration for what later would become streetfoodbar VIJFNULVIJF originated here; introducing my all-time favorite city Amsterdam to the real highlights of Asia that I grew up with myself.
Together with my wife and friends I welcome you to our cosy 'living room’.
